It's been a week here on the West Coast and I have say it's pretty good. I'm staying in the Carmana Plaza right in the heart of the city (I've put a map in the photo album). Our suite is really nice; we're up on the 25th floor in a two bed two bath. It's got the standard modern furnishings including 3 flat screens. Our balcony has an incredible view of the of the mountains and the harbor. During the day you can watch the float planes takeoff and the cargo ships roll in. At night we’re treated to an office tower light show.
Work’s been fun so far. On the first day I had a chance to meet a good mix of older and newer Gemcomers. They spent the first few hours discussing their latest assignments, Brazil, Ukraine, Australia, Netherlands etc. The trainings been low key and surprisingly interesting. We didn’t have computers for the first while but they did come Friday. The machines are fairly high end but some what ridiculous. My Toshiba Tecra has every IO port every invented, I’m pretty sure I can hook up to both modern GPS satellites and the older soviet era models. After work it’s off the local watering hole for a few too many drinks for a weekday.
Unfortunately the weathers been sub par and the weekend has been no exception. Friday we went for Sushi and few drinks. Saturday I went to the Art Gallery and visited Gastown; Van City’s Distillery district. I thought Toronto had it’s share of hipsters but the Gastown residence have more ‘hip’ than you can shake a stick oat (or more likely your always at hand umbrella)
I’m heady back over east on Friday and I’ll swap stories then.
